The Soul Dress was created for dancer, choreographer and photograher, George Liang for his piece
entitled “Two Souls”, performed by Northern Ballet dancers in 2024.
The dress is handmade from stretch mesh fabric, giving it a beautiful light quality. The classic shape is a draped one shoulder style with a full circle skirt. The stretch gives an essential flexibility for dance movement.
George’s choreography called for something simple yet elegant; feminine yet strong.
The single shoulder feature we took from contemporary designer fashion styles, but the shape of the dress is timeless, with a nod to the 1950s silhouette.
Classic style variation
One shoulder, unlined
Lined top, sheer skirt variation
One shoulder, lined in the top half giving more cover while keeping the skirt part translucent. The lining is made of ECONYL® eco-sustainable yarn, which works so well with mesh - it doesn't 'lock it'; the stretch remains totally unaltered. Lining to match main dress or the dancer's skin tone.
Fully lined
One shoulder lined both top and skirt.
I can use the ECONYL® eco-sustainable lining througout, or you could go for two layers of mesh on the skirt part for some colour variation.
Classic dress unlined, one shoulder £65 - additional strap + £10Dress lined on top half, one shoulder £80 - additional strap + £10
Dress lined top and skirt (two layers) £100 - additional strap + £10
